We gather
for worship ...
|
The World in Wolfville
It’s quarter to ten on Sunday morning and the
congregation is gathering for worship. We have come
from all over town and beyond. Way beyond. On any
given Sunday you can hear accents from Asia, Africa,
South America, the Middle East, Europe, the
Caribbean, not to mention Alberta, Cape Breton, and
the Valley. With the university across the street
and the cosmopolitan makeup of our town, the world
is coming to Wolfville Baptist.
The variety of cultures, nationalities, religious
backgrounds, and life experience contributes much to
our life together. This is a place where we are
encouraged to stretch our minds, to welcome
differences, and to discover that our diversity
comes as a gift of the Spirit, who continues to
weave our many expressions of faith together in one
holy Church. We have much to learn from one another
and also much to offer.
For some, Wolfville Baptist Church is their lifelong
home, where their roots continue to grow deep in the
soil of familiar relationships, work, and worship.
They offer a sense of stability and hospitality that
says, “You belong.” For others, this congregation is
a stopping place on a longer journey where,
surrounded by faith and encouragement, they can find
confidence that God is present to give wisdom for
living and guidance for the future. Their presence
reminds us all that the life of faith is a work in
progress and that change and growth often go
together.
Wolfville to the World
The world in Wolfville beckons Wolfville Baptist to
the world. Although we are a church in a small town,
we have a wide embrace. Our members have been
reaching out to such diverse places as Cuba and
Kenya, El Salvador and Iraq, as well as Main Street
and Melanson. People from near and far are learning
that Wolfville Baptist is a congregation that cares.
Whether in providing emergency assistance, caring
for the sick and elderly in the town, sending
educators to Kenya and Bolivia, carrying clothing
and medical supplies to Cuba, sponsoring refugees,
or building with Habitat for Humanity, this is a
local church with a global vision. Who knows what
wonders God will accomplish through those who gather
here on a Sunday morning and who go from here into
the world!
